The only censuses that are of any real use to researchers are those published from 1841 onwards. However there were a number of local census taken prior to 1841 most of these are of little use to the family historian. The latest census that is available is the 1901 at the moment. A book is available, "Local Census Listings, 1522-1930: Holdings in the British Isles" by Jeremy Gibson will guide you on where to find them and what they contain. The 1911 Census is due to be released in 2011. I have only transcribed information from the English Census so far.

The dates of the census are as follows:

• 1841 Census on 6th June

• 1851 Census on 30th March

• 1861 Census on 7th April

• 1871 Census on 2nd April

• 1881 Census on 3rd April

• 1891 Census on 5th April

• 1901 Census on 31st March
